Valley View 2 d Angle Vale 1

Having played this team 10 days ago in a catch up round it was always going to be hard mentally backing up again so soon and so it proved as the intensity was not quite there today. Although we did dominate the game we were not as dominant as we were 10 days ago and this was also due to Angle Vale being more determined and changing their tactics to more closely mark our players.

The first half was a tight tense affair and even though we were clearly the better team we just could not put away our chances.  Finally we did score courtesy of an excellent through ball by Antonio to Trent who smashed a powerful shot into the back of the net.  This was to be the only scoring of the first half.

The second half was more of the same but we did increase our chances and had 6 or more excellent chances to score again in the first few minutes alone.  Eventually the weight of pressure was to tell and after another nice pass from Antonio, Tom dribbled twice through the defence and then shot off a powerful strike into the back of the net.  This goal was an absolute highlight and is a contender for the goal of the season.  We had many more chances but again could not finish them off and then after an Angle Vale free kick which was failed to be cleared from the goal area Angle Vale scored against the run of play. A minute later an obvious penalty was denied to our team when Antonio was clearly pushed in the back near the goal mouth but disappointingly the referee waved it off.

Angle Vale were a much bigger side than our team and played very physically in this bruising encounter earned themselves two yellow cards in the process but importantly the boys got the job done and came away with the win.

Goal scorers: Trent (1) and Tom (1).
