Valley View 7 Para Hills West 0

The U8s travelled to Para Hills West this week looking to put in a 100% effort after our loss last week. Training throughout the week has focussed on running back to help in defence and laying good, effective tackles. It obviously paid off as the boys started strong attacking at every opportunity. Cody C was providing plenty of opportunities and space on the right wing and was the first to score. Our relentless attacking pressure saw Luke score our second followed by a beautiful cross from David to give Julian R his first of the day. Another first half goal from Cody C saw us go into the half time break 4-0 up.

Some encouraging words from Coach Adrian during half time reinforced to maintain the pressure, control the ball and deliver effective passes saw the team continue their attacking and defensive pressure throughout the second half. The sprints at training last week were put into practice will everyone at some stage, running back to help in defence meaning that Para Hills West could not penetrate our defence. Second half goalie, Julian S was only troubled once and made sure he pounced on the ball to keep Para Hills scoreless. Another three goals from Julian saw the final score at 7-0. Special mention to Zac K who took a cracking shot at goal which hit the cross bar – if only the goals were 2cm higher it would have been an awesome goal. Well done boys, Adrian and Giacomo are so proud of the way you all responded after last week’s loss and took on board everything worked on at training.

Goals: Julian R (4), Cody C (2), Luke (1)

Valley View 5 One Tree Hill 0

Keen to get off to a great start in our Challenge Cup campaign, the U10R were raring to go against One Tree Hill.

It took the boys a little while to settle in with the first half not producing the results we would have liked however we were able to go into the half 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Jim. After some inspirational words from the coaching team at half time the boys came out with a much tougher, stronger attitude and showed One Tree Hill why Valley View are a Division 1 team.

Another four goals for the half coming from Kosta (2) and Dion (2) was a great reward for much better efforts during the second half.

Well done boys by progressing to Round 2 of Challenge Cup.

Round 19

Valley View 2 Para Hills East 2

The kids were introduced to their very first night game at meeting Para Hills East for the second time in 5 days. We were 2 nil up in the first half. Our first goal was from a corner, the Para Hills East goal keeper fumbled the ball and we pounced onto the loose ball putting us 1 nil up. Our second goal was scored from a great team effort, a clearing pass from the defence to the midfield who controlled the ball and then passed the ball down the line to another midfield player who took the ball to the by-line and put in a low cross to our attacker who then attempted a first time volley which didn’t come of but was able to slot it away with his second attempt.

The half time break was upon us, the coaches instructions were to keep passing often as Para Hills East were closing us down with more than 1 player at a time. Para Hills East scored with a run down the middle, catching the whole team out. A penalty was awarded to Para Hills East 5 minutes before the end of game making it 2-2. Our kids believed they had enough time to win the game and almost scored a goal with just a minute to go but the ball hit the upright of the goal and was cleared out by their defence.

Very good effort kids, keep it up.

Valley View 1 Ingle Farm 2

Challenge Cup Round 1 game ended Valley View vs Ingle Farm ended 1-2 . These two teams played an outstanding game which was applauded by both sets of supporters . Finally we started a game on the front foot instead of taking the usual 5 minutes to wake up and we attacked their goal immediately. Some great defending by us kept Ingle Farm out until a mis-kick went to one of their unmarked players and his shot snuck under the diving Matthew in goals and it was 0-1. Almost immediately after the re-start we took possession and April ran and ran, took on three players, then somehow bent the ball from the by line, past the goal keeper and into the back of the net! Absolutely amazing .

The score was 1-1 after normal time and we then began extra time. The pace of the game didn’t slow and both teams kept attacking we had a couple of shots saved and a couple went wide but could not score. Ingle Farm were awarded a penalty in which they scored and it deflated us a bit but we kept going. We still attacked through the second half of extra time but could not get the goal we so desperately deserved. I am so, so proud of this group to play an hour of soccer and still keep attacking as if there was no score at all . We never gave up and going a goal down never really bothered them. We stuck to our plan and it almost came off. Big thanks to all the noise our supporters made it helped this team without doubt...thanks again.

Round 19

Valley View 1 Angle Vale 1

After a 3-0 win at the same venue the week before, the side had reason for added confidence with 2 players back: captain Jack, and Kobey. Yet the Foxes were studying us. They learned from our goal-scoring in the last match and depended on two central defenders who had standout games, blocking many over-cooked attacks. Ben won possession a couple times on his left wing, dribbling in with shots on target saved. Josh L also got free a few times, skying one over the crossbar. Despite winning 5 corners the side couldn't capitalise, whilst Darcy had some hair-raising moments at the edge of his box at the other end, making 4 saves. Anna's final touches close to goal were vital also on several occasions. The sides went in locked at 0-0 and you could see the Foxes' confidence growing.

The second half saw the Reds getting the better chances up forward, supplied by the reliable defensive pairing of Anna and Jack. Akira's early shot was blocked and several of our 4 corners saw scrambles near the goal line but no toe-poke into the net. Hard running in an open midfield began to tell on Haydyn and Josh W, who tried hard to create chances all game. Josh L was getting plenty of runs up forward crossing in, which we couldn't score from. Captain Jack switched from defence with Ben to give us some extra run up forward, supplying Josh L several times. Khayne and Callum were also solid on the defensive wings all game, Kobey subbing in to provide reliable defence and service from the defensive right side. With 6 minutes left in the game, Mark fed Josh L the ball who passed a couple defenders, then his left-field cross attempt pulled just left of the 'keeper, sneaking inside the upright for a belated 1-0 lead. With less than 3 minutes left in the game, tired Reds legs failed to get back for a Foxes' push forward, then our players stopped, believing the ball had gone out. Vale's central defensive #5 rushed on, playing the whistle, dashing on from the left for a classy strike into the top right corner of the net from just inside the edge of the box to equalise. The final whistle blew and the 3rd from bottom Foxes celebrated a well-deserved point off the Reds.

GOAL: Josh L; Assist: Mark
